Captain Marvel is one of my favorite Superhero ideas just because it’s so simple. Kids can read about Superman and Batman but they are both adults. You can read their adventures, but unless your parents are DEAD then you can’t be that. They had to suffer through tragedy to become what they are, and fight so that no-one else has to be like them (Superman the last son of a doomed world and Batman orphaned by crime)
Meanwhile Captain Marvel is a kid. Just like the people reading the comics. (give or take) He didn’t have great circumstances, Billy Batson’s just a good kid who gets chosen by a wizard. There’s nothing particularly special about him. He’s a Jim Hawkins, or hell a Harry Potter. But when he says the magic word SHAZAM he’s an adult. Powerful, brave, strong, wise, everything that kids think that adults are when they are young. But he’s still a child, looking with wonder and appreciating the world without the jaded-edge of age. He’s the ultimate relatable character.
And it’s so simple, but at the same time it’s brilliant.
